Lawyers for SPS Technologies Corp argue that Motorola Inc. should be responsible to pay $10 billion in a trade-secrets lawsuit because it ignored a court order.

In its suit, SPS claimed that Motorola, the second-biggest maker of cellular phones, stole its idea for a vehicle-tracking system. Circuit Court Judge Leroy Moe of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, declared a mistrial Nov. 27 when the jury deadlocked on a verdict in the fourth day of deliberations.

Moe had ordered witnesses at the eight-week trial sequestered so they wouldn't be influenced by the statements of others. Two witnesses who testified for Schaumburg, Illinois- based Motorola said they got transcripts of earlier testimony before taking the stand, lawyers for SPS said.
